The only endemic to the small island of Barbuda, off the larger neighbouring island Antigua. A brightly coloured inhabitant of thickets and scrub near water. The combination of blue-grey upperparts, extensively yellow underparts, white wingbars, and distinctive facial pattern are unique within its range. The song is variable, but most often is a burbling series of sweet notes given in three parts, with the middle part higher pitched. The call is a single loud sweet chip.

This Snowy Owl uses an unconventional perch to scan for prey. The antenna was on a small shed east of the village of Beiseker, northeast of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. On the open prairies, there may not be many natural prominent spots for these raptors, so they use what they find.

I spent the evening on Cissbury Ring this week watching the most amazing cloud show as all around me were showers. Incedibly though I managed not to get wet through the whole time I was up there!
It is endemic to the regions of Andaman and Nicobar islands, Sumatra, Borneo and Peninsular Malaysia. It lives in a wide variety of habitats such as swamp forests, lowland evergreen forest, palm plantations, gardens and public parks. although it can use man-made habitats, it is experiencing rapid declines due to forest loss and hunting for bird trading. It is considered Vulnerable in IUCN Red List. Taken in Malay Peninsula in 2019.

Really pleased with how this picture of a Snow Leopard at Marwell Wildlife Park came out. There is almost a sadness her the eyes as she stares out into the park, it is no wonder there is a sadness with the snow leopard being classified as vulnerable by the WWF and only around 4000 of these majestic cats left!
The elegant and well-camouflaged snow leopard is one of the world’s most elusive cats. Thinly spread across 12 countries in central Asia, it’s at home in high, rugged mountain landscapes. But habitat deterioration, habitat loss, poaching and climate change are now threatening their survival.
The snow leopard has a beautiful, spotted coat, thick enough to insulate them from the cold. Their wide, fur-covered feet distribute their weight over soft snow, like natural snowshoes.
Snow leopards are solitary creatures, and skillful predators, able to kill prey up to three times their own weight in challenging terrain. It’s been found that poaching and retaliatory killing (as a consequence of a snow leopard killing livestock) are sometimes linked, and the attitudes and support from local communities living in these remote mountain areas are critical to the success of snow leopard conservation.

Listed as vulnerable on the IUCN the Bulwer's Pheasant can only be found in forestry at an altitude of above 1,000 feet on the island of Borneo. This is a female with her brown plumage unlike her male counterpart that sports lovely Black plumage and rather extensive collection of white tail feathers.

She managed to escape, but her cub did not.
Sadly, small animals and birds have suffered from persecution by dogs that are abandoned in the environmental park.
These dogs are natural hunters and are becoming a serious problem in the Brasília Mineral Water National Park.

These latest 6 cubs are part of the San Diego Zoo Safari Park's highly successful cheetah breeding program. Seen on exhibit in the African Outpost of the Park.
Conservation Status: Vulnerable
Seun means son in Afrikaans and this young male hippo played his supporting role with Jessica very well.
He too is a rescue hippo but, because he is so much younger than Jessica, is still happy to entertain tourists and almost opens his mouth on command.
He is also wild and can move up and down the river as he desires but is so much more vulnerable because he is male and as a result spends much of his time close to home.

Spent a bunch of time watching rhinoceros auklets last week. Rarely very close, hence the borderline quality of the pictures, but very fun to see.
Most pictures taken in the late afternoon, hence not always so much light, but some taken in the morning.
These are in Puget Sound. At least some of the birds seem to be feeding their chicks on Protection Island (about 2 miles as the auklet flies from where I was watching them). They dive repeatedly for the sand lances they eat, and then store them in their bill to bring back to the nest instead of eating them. And since they only enter their nests under the cover of darkness, this behavior happens during the waning light.
In fact, I don't know if I would have noticed them if I hadn't been looking east near sunset and seen shiny silvery things. Those are the sand lances that the auklets were diving for, and accumulating in their beaks.
Also, if one sees just how much they struggle in any medium other than water (in the air they look they only just barely have retained the ability to fly), you can understand why they feel vulnerable and only want to enter the nest when no one can see!

Another male lion this time from South Africa,
The lion (Panthera leo) is a species in the cat family (Felidae). The lion is sexually dimorphic; males are larger than females with a typical weight range of 150 to 250 kg (331 to 551 lb) for the former and 120 to 182 kg (265 to 401 lb) for the latter. Male lions have a prominent mane, which is the most recognisable feature of the species.
A lion pride consists of a few adult males, related females and cubs. Groups of female lions typically hunt together, preying mostly on large ungulates. The species is an apex and keystone predator, although they scavenge when opportunities occur.
Typically, the lion inhabits grasslands and savannas but is absent in dense forests. It is usually more diurnal than other big cats, but when persecuted it adapts to being active at night and at twilight.
It has been listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List since 1996 because populations in African countries have declined by about 43% since the early 1990s. Habitat loss and conflicts with humans are the greatest causes for concern. - Source Wikipedia

I read a story from animal rights activists about something that happened in my town. A cat, loved by the locals, was let inside a company building every evening so it wouldn’t have to be outside in the cold. One day, the cat didn’t show up in the evening because someone tortured it to death.
This is just an average story from the daily reality of animal protection. Hell is created by humans on Earth.
